Talk about it! MLNPstar Dale Cooper on the importance of speaking sex

Written by MLNPstar Dale Cooper. Watch his #realworldsex video here!

Hi there. My name is Dale Cooper, and I was very kindly asked by the lovely Madam Curator, Miss Sarah, to jot down some of my thoughts on sex and cameras. I am a performer in gay pornography by occupation, and recently became a contributor to MakeLoveNotPorn.tv – my first video was released on June 5th. Sarah asked me to share my thoughts on #realworldsex and #pornsex, and I am happy to oblige, as I do both with some regularity and think about them often enough.

I fairly recently got through Denis Diderot’s Les bijoux indiscrets (The Indiscreet Jewels), a fable first published in 1748. In it, the male protagonist, the sultan Mangogul, is given a ring by a genie which compels tales of sexual misadventure to be spoken. The women of Mangogul’s court would not speak through their mouths, however, but, through the power of the magic ring. Their “jewels” are what speak “the part which is most frank in them, and the most knowledgeable about the things you wish to know.”

We are, thankfully, living in an age where some degree of an ability to speak sex is allowable, and more and more permissible for women. Yet the discussion is still remarkably circumscribed. To a great extent, despite all of us being sexed creatures by virtue of our biologies, we rely on the the invention of all sorts of “magic rings” that make speaking about sex possible through innuendo, hushed voices, and mere hints of visible sexual display: Hollywood, advertising, sexual mores relating to propriety or monogamy or marriage, structural homophobia within our institutions, etc. Meanwhile, we still restrict as improbable the larger, open, inclusive discussion that sex deserves.

Sex is incredibly important to a great deal of us. To some of us it is more important than others, and to some it is not important at all. To still some others it does not occur to them that sex might be crucially important, that it might be redolent with meanings and connections to other parts of their lives.

This is the problem with relying upon our society’s version of Diderot’s device to speak about sex. The most potent magic ring we currently have is the pornographic video — none other can claim to so nakedly portray sex as it does. While Mangogul had to turn the setting on his ring to get women to speak their sex, those of us with access to the internet nowadays can compel all manners of strangers to speak their sex by pressing play on a video we find on a porn website. Cindy Gallop has spoken of how online porn has became the de facto sex education for young people in a country that absolutely refuses to grow a pair and speak sex to its youth. If you let one type of discussion about sex, in this case, conventional and readily accessible online porn, completely take over the public discourse on what sex is, you have a problem. We live in an age with a very big problem when it comes to talking about sex. We invest it with all of the illicitness that encourages us to keep our sexual lives and proclivities secret from one another, and only safely whip them out when we’re at home in front of our screens.

Seeing as I introduced myself as performer for conventional gay male pornography studios, you may be imagining me as quite the hypocrite right now. Let me at least say in my defense, and in defense of my industry that a) porn is awfully important (economically, socially, libidinally), b) we thankfully live in a society that allows for the free expression of its production, and c) there is nothing at all wrong with some people finding conventional porn and its tropes hot. I think that’s great. It is certainly not my job (and should be no one else’s for that matter) to dictate to others what is hot and what is not.

The problem is not that porn exists. The problem is that we have let the word “porn” come to mean just one thing: the kind of aggressive, affected erotic display that predominates the market currently. Again: that can be hot! If you like that, no problem! But there is so much more, so much variety, so many ways of being and so many ways of interacting with others that are not represented within them.

To some those displays can also be very not hot. They can be misogynist. They can be overly focused on the penetrative. They can be a bit stale. The problem is that we, collectively, have so readily given over any desire to construct alternative dialogues, alternative erotic displays, that we have let porn imagine itself to be monolithic, to be the only type of sex that people could want. Which it is definitely not.

That is the importance, to me, of a project such as MakeLoveNotPorn.tv. It can act as an antidote to the folly of Mangogul’s ring, which construed sexual pleasure as something private and unknowable unless one was a voyeur. The are multiple paths to the the erotic, and there is no more destabilizing a force on the hegemony of contemporary porn representations than to democratize this medium. MAKE YOUR OWN #REALWORLDSEX VIDEO. Make your own porn. Call it whatever you want. Call it erotica. Call it a smut film. Call it a home movie. Call it making love. Call it fucking in an alley with a video camera in your hand. MLNP.tv offers several different, individuated pathways to #realworldsex videos for you to choose from. I would certainly encourage you to submit some of your own and add even more. Throw in as many different voices into this discussion as possible. Speak your sex. Or if that’s not your thing (which is fine), encourage us folk who do if you like what we do.

There you have it, folks! Speak your sex by sharing #realworldsex on MLNP.tv.

“The necessary constant is that sex, like anything, requires a certain degree of learning and experimentation, and often begins with awkward strides. The challenge of youth is that there will always be more “stuff” to dig through, learn about, and digest than there was for the prior generation. I’d say it’s the responsibility of older generations to arm the youth with the tools to cope. Namely, education and context.

Are we arming the youth? Perhaps not explicitly. We’re not explicitly marketing porn to them either. But kids are interested in sex and they’re smart. They’re going to find porn because it’s there. My hope is that they’ll find the context too.”

Make LGBTQ Love Not Porn!

When I first began seeding content for MakeLoveNotPorn.tv I had two main objectives in mind:

1. To make sure our first MLNPstars were folks who really got what we were trying to do, and

2. That the content on our site be as diverse as possible and inclusive of all races and ethnicities, as well as those who identify within the LGBTQ spectrum.

From the get-go, everyone on our team was in agreement that we wanted to have a strong gay, lesbian and queer representation when we went live.

Because we were building our platform in stealth-mode prior to our launch in private beta, the whole team personally reached out to a number of friends and acquaintances we thought might be interested in sharing their gay, lesbian and queer #realworldsex in time for MLNP.tv’s maiden voyage. We even reached out to a select few genderqueer #realworldpornstars we knew would be a great addition to our #pornstarshaverealworldsex category.*

And, they were totally into it!

But, for a variety of reasons – not having a partner to shoot with, cold feet, hectic schedules, technical difficulties and the like – we only received two gay #realworldsex videos.

One was a self-love video showcasing xxxotter‘s mind-blowing orgasmic nipples and the other was some of the most beautiful, tender and hot #CoupledGayMaleRealWorldSex anyone on the team had ever seen.

Guys, both of these #realworldsex videos were SO. GOOD.

But then, alas, the couple in the latter video got cold feet. They’d been brave enough to show their faces, but one of them became nervous about that in the context of his employment, and so they asked us not to publish it.

We were devastated.

But of course we understood. We hope one day to help overcome all such prejudices against sharing your #realworldsex online, but we know that day isn’t quite here for everybody.

Today I’m happy to say that we now have an extremely tender and excruciatingly hot #gaymalerealworldsex video on the site courtesy of Dale Cooper and Colby Keller, aka ThisIsOurHandle.

OurUserHandle

And Lily Cade is basically killing it on the #LesbianRealWorldSex front.

nikki

However, we know that we are far from being as sexualities-diverse (and as racially diverse) as we would like to be, and I want to make sure everyone knows just how much we welcome submissions from people who are gay, lesbian, queer, trans, bi and whatever other “non-traditional” gender/sexual orientation you might identify as.

So if, for example, you are an FTM or a high femme or a stone butch or kinky or any other flavor of genderqueer and you’re considering submitting your #realworldsex to MakeLoveNotPorn.tv – YES!YES!YES! Do it now!

Or, if you identify as gay or lesbian or queer and you feel like you’re not seeing the kind of #realworldsex you’d like to rent on MLNP.tv, SPREAD THE WORD! Or submit your own #realworldsex!

We are a crowd-sourced platform and whether we have a certain orientation of #realworldsex on our site depends completely on folks knowing about us and deciding to submit a #realworldsex video that is framed the way we like it.

There you have it folks. #realworldsex is whatever it is to you and we want YOU to submit it to MLNP.tv!

*While we are a #realworldsex platform, we fully support the feminist porn movement. We’re feminists, after all. You can see Cindy giving a shout-out to our feminist porn friends in her SXSW key note.

We’re not exhibitionists, but we love sharing our #realworldsex on MLNP.tv by Redfox

By Redfox

My wife and I have been together for almost 18 years, and married for 12 of those.  We have two beautiful kids, a boy and a girl aged 5 & 7 years, and we both grew up and reside in Northern Ireland.  We have always enjoyed a healthy and passionate love life, and although we are not into anything really ‘out there’, we have generally been open to enjoying new experiences to keep things fresh and exciting. Most couples who have been together as long as we have will probably relate to how your sex life can go through periods of feast or famine; add in the ‘kids’ factor and you can find yourselves quite restricted when thinking about where, when and how you will next enjoy each other again!

Having said that I think we have done pretty darn well over the years. We enjoy sex with each other just as much as during those first rampant months (remember those?). In fact, our sex life has gotten better with time. We know each other so well now -  what we like, what we don’t, what is off limits and we talk about things we would like to try next.

Which conveniently brings me to MLNP.tv. Let me be clear about this; like a lot of people we have made the odd home movie for ourselves in the past (which was a lot of fun, and if we’re being honest, a bit nerve wracking on the first viewing).  But if you had told us a couple of years ago we would be sharing our #realworldsex on MLNP.tv we would have laughed it off.

We are far from being exhibitionists, but when the ‘fox’ in this relationship showed me an article in one of her glossy fashion mags about a lady who had uploaded a video to MLNP.tv and then suggested we give it a try, I was quite surprised. Surprised and a little excited.

We talked about it and it was clear we both found the idea scary, exciting, mysterious and a turn-on all mixed together, but as soon as we made the decision to give it a try, within days we were making our first video and uploading it with a mixture of satisfaction and sheer terror!

Those first few days after uploading were pretty nerve wracking….who will see it…will anybody watch it…..will they hate it, love it, or not really care.  We were both equally terrified of someone seeing it, and of no-one wanting to see it! And then while checking our account one night we saw that it had been rented 6 times, then 10, 15, 30 and so on.  And you know what, it felt good.  It felt good that with all our insecurities, etc, that people out there were renting our video, and for some reason the intimate nature of what we were sharing wasn’t as much of an issue anymore.  In fact the idea of others enjoying watching us was actually quite exciting!

Since then we have uploaded 6 other videos.  We have had so much fun making them, watching them and then sharing them. As a couple, porn has never been part of our sex lives so what we upload isn’t influenced by what we watch, or read.  It is simply what we feel like doing at the time.  Sometimes the ‘Fox’ likes to dress up (and she looks fantastic), sometimes we like to try something new that one of us has suggested, and most of the time we forget about the camera whirring away somewhere in the corner of the room.  But most of all it is fun, and passionate, and intimate, and loving, and a really big turn on for us both!

So far our experiences have been so positive. Sometimes we find ourselves wondering about which of our videos have been rented the most, or what we would like to try next. As yet we haven’t rented other members videos; we are going to, and want to, but again it is something we will do when we are ready to share that experience together.

Congrats to all of you who have shared your own experiences; it gives us confidence when we see other ordinary people like us who are willing to share their imperfections and fumblings!

We would also like to say it has been a pleasure dealing with all the MLNP elves; It has been so easy and comfortable exchanging info and advice with Sarah and the team. It has surprised us how comfortable it is talking with someone on the other side of the Atlantic about subjects of, well, an intimate nature; and we can honestly say it has made the entire process very rewarding.

Oh, and we can’t not mention the added bonus of the MLNP earnings.  I mean for doing something that is such fun…really?  We are about to receive our first payment and are so excited.  I feel a new camera might be the order of the day!!

Well, thanks for reading.  I hope this has given you all a little more insight into who we are and why we are members of the MLNP family.  We are looking forward to sexy new experiences with the site and look forward to watching it grow and develop in the coming months (and hopefully years).  And for those of you out there still debating about whether to give it a try, go for it, we’re so glad we did.

Hump Day Special: 16 #realworldsex videos that get Cindy going

MadamCurator has shared with you the #realworldsex videos that make her all tingly. This week I want to share with you a selection that I’m particularly fond of.

Watch her face

BZ&Gloria’s deliciously spontaneous on-the-couch #realworldsex was our very first submission. I was fascinated the first time I watched it to find that no matter how hot the action (and it’s hot) I could not stop looking at Gloria’s face. She was aroused, she was loving it, she looked adorable how much she was enjoying herself, and I was utterly riveted just watching her face. You don’t see faces like that in porn.

A sense of place

We love our Italian MLNPstars, MagicLovers.  I particularly enjoyed their #realworldsex weekend in Rome, watching them get turned on in the train, seeing their hotel and what they got up to in their room. We ask you to contextualize your #realworldsex, because context is HOT. A member wrote to us to tell us how fascinating she found the background glimpses of our MLNPstars’ homes, bedrooms, #realworldlives, and I wholeheartedly agree.

It’s not about length

I also loved the setting in Mr & Mrs Lau’s ferry ride from the UK to the Netherlands, in the captain’s cabin. We don’t stipulate timelength for submissions, because in #realworldsex time spent is no measurement of anything. Mr & Mrs Lau’s #realworldsex video is only 3 minutes, but what a 3 minutes!

Pegging can save the world

We don’t classify our #realworldsex videos by ‘Most Popular/Viewed’. That’s because there’s no comparison, and we don’t believe in making one. Different people respond to different things (a poll of the MLNP.tv team ourselves demonstrates that). But I will say that we’ve been pleased to see a lot of interest in our pegging videos, from the fabulous Violet & Rye, and the equally fabulous Nebbish & Goddess.  Pleased for all the reasons Charlie Glickman highlights in this must-read post ‘How Pegging Can Help Save The World’

Infinite variety

I love seeing more videos from our MLNPstars that mean we get to know them better and see how their #realworldsex plays out over time in all its multi-faceted glory. The very first video Ionsquares submitted, of #realworldsex in a truck because they had nowhere else to go, had me wanting more, and their collection of videos demonstrate the full spectrum of all the things a couple can enjoy – quickies, slowies, roleplay – when you love and trust each other.

Downtown Abbey *

When ionsquares submitted a video described as ‘Here is a deliciously up-close video of me licking my lover’s pussy. I’ve always considered myself a gentleman. In my house, my lady comes first’, while I applauded the sentiment wholeheartedly, I am not a fan of extreme gynaecological close-ups (I prefer to stay away from anything overly resembling open-heart surgery, a line I can’t take credit for as it comes from Candida Royalle). Well – MIND. CHANGED. As SexNerdSandra said about going down on a woman, ‘If your eyebrows aren’t wet you’re not doing it right.’

Yup.

* Oonie came up with this one

Giving me ideas

One of our male members (heh) told us, ‘Watching porn makes me want to jerk off. Watching your videos makes me want to have sex.’ MLNP.tv plays a different role to porn. We’re not just masturbatory material; like every other social media platform, we’re about connecting people, through better communication around sex, better sexual relationships, making for better relationships, period. When I watch BiLikesScifi enjoying seven minutes in heaven, my immediate thought is, ‘I need to get me some of that!’ (Good news for every young gentleman crossing my path immediately following….:))

Smile

Many of you have written to us saying things like, ‘I watch your videos with a big smile on my face’, and, ‘Your videos are joyful in a way that porn isn’t’. #realworldsex is fun, and funny. We adore pornstar Lily Cade and her #realworldsex with her #realworldgirlfriends; here Lily and fellow pornstar Aaliyah Love share a lot of fun, a lot of laughter, a lot of hotness, a LOT of orgasms and a running commentary on how all of this differs from the way they’re expected to perform in front of the camera. As Aaliyah says, ‘I wish all porn could be like this.’

Mo’ men

As a straight woman, I enjoy watching gay porn – because it shows me more of what I’m into, ie men. I really enjoy gay #realworldsex – we want more of it but for some reason, while our gay male fans have promised submissions, they are so far spectacularly failing to deliver. Guys – REPRESENT!  In the meantime, I am in love with Dale Cooper and Colby Keller. If either batted for my team, I would so do them. As it is, I’m extremely happy watching their wonderful, loving #realworldsex.

Videoing is transformative

When Havingfun submitted their sizzlingly hot video of little-black-dress-plus-sex-toys #realworldsex, the female half wrote to tell us, ‘Making the film was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and a fabulously bonding experience with my partner.’  Even we had not realized how much the actual process of videoing your #realworldsex can open up communication, make the sex even hotter, and strengthen relationships (something we’ve heard from more of you since). We love that!

Pornstars have #realworldsex too

As with Lily and her friends, and Dale and Colby, MLNP.tv is where pornstars post their #realworldsex – the sex they have off-camera, in their #realworldrelationships, which is completely different from the sex they have on-camera. Our very first pornstar MakeLoveNotPornstars were my friends Danny Wylde and Lily LaBeau; their first intro video is a must-watch (aren’t they just adorable?) as is their first #realworldsex video.

I wish I could do that

We believe #realworldsex is more innovative, more amazing, more creative, more surprising, more hot, more arousing and more wonderful than porn can ever be. This incredible video by xxxotter is a demonstration of that. This may or may not turn you on, but I promise you you will be as riveted as I was by his extraordinary ability to get hard and come purely by caressing his nipples. <le sigh> I wish I had the female capability to do that…..

I could go on and on – I want to see more of George&Babs; I love that EllaBella relaxed into feeling able to show her face and come loud and proud with us; I’m thrilled two_sybarite have been married twenty-six years and are sharing their forays into BDSM with us (we would like to help ‘de-kinkify’ the kind of sex a lot more people could be enjoying if society hadn’t impressed on so many of us that we mustn’t go there).  But this post is already rather long, so I’ll have to do Part Two in due course.

I want to thank all of you for supporting us – our members and MLNPstars alike. Please, pick up a camera or cameraphone and share your #realworldsex with us. It is a privilege and a joy to be allowed to share in your intimate moments. When I view your videos, I am overwhelmed by your openness, your honesty, your love, your beauty – everyone is beautiful when they are having #realworldsex, no exceptions – your laughter, your generosity, your humanness.

Three years ago, Ridley Scott produced the film ‘Life In A Day, crowdsourced from 80,000 clips submitted to YouTube showing life around the world on a single day, July 24 2010.

It’s a moving and inspiring movie that I highly recommend. Maybe one day, if all goes well, we’ll all be able to put together the MLNP.tv version –  ‘Life In A Night’. And everyone will be able to see the varied, fascinating, equally moving and inspiring, sheer wonderfulness that is how the world has #realworldsex.

‘Porn Sex vs Real Sex’ / Kornhaber Brown

Written by Eric Brown, co-founder of Kornhaber Brown

Every once in a while at Kornhaber Brown, we make something for ourselves. We have a project called “KB Creative Lab”, where we assign a small budget to make creative or experimental videos.

Most recently, we decided to make a video to address the giant elephant in the internet room: porn.

Porn is totally over the top, and kinda weird. Even though it’s usually experienced alone, we feel like it definitely has an impact on our views of each other, our relationships, and our lovers. So we thought it would be fun to make a ridiculous video that pointed out how divorced porn is from reality. And then while walking to lunch we hit on the idea of conveying it using only food, mainly because we have a very juvenile imagination.

If we hadn’t been fans of Cindy’s work with Make Love Not Porn, we never would have realized how important the idea was, and wouldn’t have pursued it.

MLNP has proven that people care about having frank conversations about what makes good, positive sex, and her project has been a key part of destigmatizing that dialogue.

What I love about MLNP is that we are finally recognizing that, yes, almost all of us are consumers of pornography, almost all of us are affected by it, and we should talk about what the hell that means. Who knows? Maybe it’ll make us better in bed. We hope you enjoy our small contribution to the world of good sex.

Why we make it so hard for you to give us your money

A number of our members are surprised when they write to support@mlnp.tv with an issue, and I reply. But in a tiny, bootstrapping startup we are all customer support. I need and want to see what issues you encounter, and to help solve them for you as quickly as possible.

Every day, we get at least one MLNP.tv member writing to us saying, ‘I’m having trouble setting up my credit card details.’ Every few days, we get at least one member asking, ‘Why don’t you work with PayPal?’ A number of you write to us and say, ‘I set up my account fine but I don’t seem to be able to rent?’

Every time we get one of those emails, we die a little inside. Because we know we’re not delivering the experience you deserve.

Any one of our members work for a payment processor?

Every one of you is a pioneer. You believe, as we do, in helping to create a more open healthy dialogue around #realworldsex. You see the value in what we’re doing. In a world where the received wisdom is ‘Nobody pays for porn’, you’re paying for #realworldsex. And you’re also writing to us and telling us how much you love what we’re doing and to please keep on doing it.

The world of payment processing, and business in general, is short on pioneers.

We fight a battle every single day to build MLNP.tv. Every piece of business infrastructure every other venture can take for granted, we can’t, because the small print always says, ‘No adult content’.

We would love to work with PayPal; they refuse to work with ‘adult content’.  We work with Dwolla instead, and love them to death, but they are as of now only available to our US-based members. We couldn’t find any US-based mainstream payment processors prepared to work with us; we work with Sankyu in Europe. The Sankyu team are terrific and big believers in our mission, but all the workarounds we have to do to process your payments result in many more glitches and hiccups than if we were able to use the same payment systems as every other e-commerce business.

The XXX guys don’t get it

We’re asked regularly, ‘But what do the adult industry use? Can’t you work with them?’

The two important things about any business partner we work with: they have to get what we’re doing, believe in it, support it, and want to help make it happen – and it has to support our business model.

When we talk to adult industry-specific payment processors, their attitude tends to be, ‘Yeah, yeah, social mission, social values blah blah blah….you’re porn like all the rest.’  That’s not a good foundation for the kind of productive, close working relationships we like to build. Plus, because the adult industry has nowhere else to go, the rates are extortionate. Our revenue-sharing business model splits all #realworldsex video rental income 50/50 with our MakeLoveNotPornstars net a small amount to cover hosting and transaction fees – so we need to keep those fees as low as possible, at mainstream level.

We want to be transparent with all of you about our difficulties, because we know that for every one of you who writes to us saying, ‘I’m having a problem…’ three of you have probably thrown up your hands in despair and decided it’s not worth the effort to keep trying. Which we completely understand.

Don’t block porn – disrupt it

That’s why we are fighting this battle very publicly, as per this recent interview with me in Nerve. Here’s the irony: the answer to everything that worries people about porn and its impact on sex is not to block it, in the way that David Cameron wants toit’s to disrupt it. Don’t shut down, censor, repress – open up the dialogue; open up the ability for entrepreneurs like us, who want to change the world of sex and porn for the better, to be able to do business on the same terms and conditions as everyone else.

Silicon Valley welcomes disruption and innovation in every other area of life and business except this one – the one that needs it most. We believe it’s possible to change the world through sex, to make sex better for all of us; the world of tech and business is doing everything it possibly can to stop us. Where’s the sense in that?

We’re working to make it easier to take your money!

That’s why we seem to make it so difficult for you to pay. We can’t apologize enough. Please, whenever you encounter a problem on the site, do email us at support@makelovenotporn.tv and we will do our absolute damnedest to sort it out for you. If you would like to support us beyond renting videos, you can do so here. If you would like to be able to use PayPal on MLNP.tv, please email the president of PayPal, David Marcus, at david.marcus@paypal.com to ask him to work with us. We are determined to make this venture work against all odds, because every obstacle we encounter is precisely why we must, and we are so grateful for your patience and forbearance.  We are constantly looking for better and easier payment solutions, and we hope one day we’ll find them.

“Makelovenotporn.tv does not play the same role as porn. We are not certainly masturbation material. Although we are that too. We are very happy to do that. We are a fascinating glimpse into the real raw sex lives of real people. Because everybody wants to know what everybody else is really doing in bed and nobody does. Amateur porn replicates the porn professionals.” – Cindy Gallop

Her definition of AMATEUR PORN makes sense to me and definitely applies to my beginnings in the industry. I started out as an amateur porn performer, model and webmaster who was in the professional porn replication business. As my life’s journey went on its up and down way, my work evolved into something quite different. Let’s look back at the why and the how of my adventure in xxx… “

“Dear David Cameron,

about your “war on porn”: you’re right, there’s an issue. A huge issue. One that I encountered very personally years ago through dating younger men, before the current media frenzy ever erupted, and launched Make Love Not Porn to tackle.

So you’re right to take action. But it’s the wrong action.

It’s precisely because we now live in an unprecedented era of ubiquitous access to porn online, that we can’t go on operating around sex and porn the way we always have — infused with shame and embarrassment, pretending neither exists. The solution isn’t blocking, filtering, censoring – closing down. The solution is opening up. “

Porn can be a great way to delve into a fantasyland, but it’s a terrible means of sex education

I’m a retired porn star and I like porn. I think regular old porn is a good thing. I think rough porn is a good thing. I think lesbian porn, gay porn, straight porn, kinky porn, and romantic porn are great! I think (almost) all porn is good for the people who watch it because it allows them to explore their fantasies.

Porn is a great way to delve into a fantasy land, but it’s a terrible means of sex education. Porn shows us the possibilities. It shows us that we can have sex in crazy positions. It shows us that girls can squirt and that anal sex can be pleasurable. But porn doesn’t show us how to get into those crazy positions, how to learn to squirt, or how to have safe, pleasurable anal sex.

lilykara1

Fans and friends often ask me how to play with anal toys and how to have anal sex. Often, they tell me that they tried to finger their partner’s bum or tried to have anal intercourse, but couldn’t get the cock/toy/finger in or didn’t think it felt good. In almost every case, I learned that the couple went right to the sex without much prep.

An anal porn scene starts after the performer cleans out her bum with a series of small warm water enemas and stretches herself with a toy or with her fingers. Often, the performers will get busy on set before filming so they can take their time with the first penetration.

On set, routines vary from porn star to porn star but everyone does something to prepare for anal sex before walking on set.

When we watch an anal porn scene we only see the hottest parts. We see a very horny seeming lady and delivery boy go from discussing pepperoni pizza *bow chicka wow wow* to stuffing his massive cock into her bum without much foreplay. We don’t see how porn stars make this happen.

karapricelegs

We don’t see all the prep that goes into these stunts, so we think that human bodies are supposed stretch on command and wonder what’s wrong with us if sex is more complicated than “open sesame.”

I talked to Lily Cade about this issue and we decided to make a how-to-anal movie that shows how we prepare for and have anal sex. We both really love anal sex and wanted to debunk the myth that anal sex is only pleasurable for men or somehow degrading for women. In our movie we explain why we like anal sex, how we hit the g-spot while having anal sex, and how anal sex makes us orgasm really, really hard.

frame-2696-28788

We wanted to make a movie where we show everything that goes into an anal porn scene and everything we do before having anal sex in real life. We explain our enema cleaning routines. We show how to choose and use several kinds of sex toys and strap-ons. We talk about lube. We show how we warm up and stretch our bums. (Lily and I do this quite differently.) We communicate more than you’ll see in any porn, and eventually get a little carried away and bang each others’ brains out!

We hope that our #realworldsex video makes you want to try anal sex. Watch this video if you think anal sex is degrading, painful, or only for porn stars. I want to change your mind. Watch this video if you want to learn how to get in touch with your bum and have amazing anal sex.

Oh,and I almost forgot– you should watch this movie if you want to see me and Lily Cade have really hot #realworldsex for the first time in almost a year!

Creating a new vocabulary for #realworldsex

We all have sex. We all enjoy it. We don’t talk about it.

So we don’t have a socially acceptable, socially shareable vocabulary for sex in the #realworld – one that everyone is comfortable using both in general, public discussion, and as a way of articulating how much you enjoy what goes on in your intimate personal relationships, and what you’d like to do.

The language of porn has rushed in to fill that gap.

This isn’t ideal – especially speaking as a woman, because unsurprisingly, given how male-dominated the management of the mainstream porn industry is, the language of porn is predominantly generated by men.

The person who coined the term ‘fingerblasting’ didn’t have a vagina – because if you have a vagina, that term automatically makes you wince and want to cross your legs. (Well, it does in my case.) The person who came up with the term ‘getting your ass railed’ in straight porn, never had his ass railed. And while ‘bitch’, ‘whore’ and ‘slut’ can be turn-ons in mutually agreed and consensual dirty talk, to be addressed as such the very first time you get naked with someone can have quite the opposite effect – speaking for myself and for the many people who’ve shared similar experiences with me, from the regular male response when this approach is queried in a straight context – ‘But women in porn really like it when you call them that’…  through similar ‘porn soundtrack’ issues in a gay/lesbian context.

We all get vulnerable when we get naked. Quite often, we aren’t sure what to say in bed, or how to express ourselves verbally. We may have no other frame of reference for ‘how people communicate during sex’ than porn. Which can result in language, and modes of address, that are borrowed, inappropriate and not necessarily welcome. Or a reluctance to say anything at all – which is a shame, because talking and communicating during sex in whatever form you both (or all) enjoy, is part of the fun and can be a huge turn-on.

So here at MLNP we’d love you to help us build a new vocabulary for #realworldsex. You’ll already have seen that our tags are different from the usual industry-standard porn classifications – our co-founder and user experience goddess Oonie Chase explains how to browse and search with them currently. We’d love you to tell us what language you use to celebrate and communicate around #realworldsex in your own individual way. Further down the line, we’ll be asking you to tag with your own terms; for now, please tell us in the comment stream below what your favorite words and phrases are. We’d love to know so that we can enlarge the vocabulary of MLNP, and provide us all with language we can all take forward into the bedroom and beyond, to talk happily, unashamedly, vividly and creatively about #realworldsex.

BunnyFucksBear

Loving and generous girlfriend, Bunny, takes her boyfriend Bear’s mind off a stressful upcoming business trip by treating him to a spontaneous living room eat-me session. Luckily, Bear is used to grabbing his camera to take photos for their tumblr and they end up shooting their first succulent and sweet-nothing-filled #realworldsex video for MLNP.tv.

RedFox

With the kids away, Red and Fox realize that for the first time in a long time they have the house to themselves! Peeking around the corner of the living room while Red watches television, Fox beckons her husband to come enjoy a kitchen quickie. Red eagerly obliges, and soon has his wife half-dressed and pinned over the counter just the way she wanted.

two_sybarite

two_sybarite

Married for 20-something years, still as hot for each other as ever and with their kids away at college, two_sybarite give new meaning to the expression ‘while the cat’s away, the mice will play!’  Tonight’s playtime means a long, teasing and intense Sybian-ride for the Mrs. right smack in the middle of the living room!

ALEX-ANNA

alex-anna

The bedroom may not exactly be uncharted territory, but considering ALEX-ANNA’s preferred breakfast food is each other, their approach to domesticity is! Hungry for sustenance and shivers, they take turns devouring one another, making sure that flesh never leaves flesh and everyone ends up satiated.

Redfox

redfox2

Red is absolutely enamoured with his wife of 16 years. And Fox, knowing the power she has over her husband, decides to treat him to a sensual round of licking, sucking and lingerie the way only she can. Retiring to the bedroom, Fox leaves mild-mannered Irish man, Red, breathless and hardly able to form words in a decidedly not-run-of-the-mill seduction.

It’s ladies choice tonight in the two_sybarite household, and her choice is a long, sensual and slippery massage complete with a very happy ending. And, if the Mrs’s reactions tell us anything, while at first it might appear to be shot in the bedroom, this video actually takes place on another planet all together!

In our opinion, pornstars don’t get paid nearly enough for what they do

$

I wanted to share this post from Kayden Kross, both because it’s excellent advice for anyone looking to work in porn, and because it demonstrates why our MLNP business model is the opposite of the porn industry’s. Pornstars are paid by the scene; that scene will go on to be viewed billions of times (literally) and the actors never see a cent from that popularity. Every other industry fights for residuals as their right; there’s no support for doing that in this one. At MLNP we believe that when you create something that gives people pleasure, you should see a financial return on it – and the more people your work gives more pleasure to, the greater that financial return should be. We’re delighted a number of our MakeLoveNotPornstars are making four figures at each payout (and so are they!).
I would also just like to say that in my opinion $1,000 a scene (and that’s if you’re lucky in porn) is way, way, WAY too low for the work that pornstars do.

What to expect when you’re expecting a porn career

Written by Kayden Kross. Originally published August 14, 2013.

“I hate to see girls come into porn anymore. It’s not a jealousy thing, I swear. I wouldn’t trade places with them. I first signed as a solo model for Hustler at the AVN show in January of 2006. I remember it was overwhelming. Cliches are generally tired descriptions because they’re accurate and this was the closest I’d ever been to what you’d call a sea of a people; every man with a camera like some cell floating alongside the next camera-head and the next and the next. The crowd that year was like a great undulating surface of thinning hair and baseball caps beneath which we may never know the depths. They thought I was someone because I stood behind a booth and had a headshot. They swarmed. Never before or since have that many people paid attention to me at once.”

“Born in the Pacific Northwest to an American mother and Thai father, she attended Mills College where she was captain of the rowing team (she named herself after a brand of racing shell) and became fluent in French.  She graduated with a degree in comparative literature and got work in the corporate world, but found it degrading and, well boring.  She spent time as a stripper at the legendary Mitchel Brothers Gentlemen’s Club in San Francisco and eventually moved out to LA to pursue commercial modeling and acting work before eventually taking the plunge into porn.

She had a lot of amazing wild sex on camera, developed a coke habit that involved long stretches of living out of hotels on the Sunset Strip, sobered up, settled down, got married, got a lot of tattoos, and had some children.

She’s loves anal sex, Ryan Gosling, and steak.  She shops at Whole Foods.  And she drives an SUV.

You really just can’t get any more All-American than that.”

Forget Sex in Advertising; How About Advertising in #RealWorldSex?

One of my personal bugbears is the inauthentic portrayal of #realworldsex in movies, television, music videos, popular culture generally, and the area that is my own career background – advertising.

That’s why I loved Barton F Graf 9000’s ad for Ragu and this ad from REN Skincare:

As you might expect from someone who is all about ‘Redesigning The Business Of Advertising‘ we’re going to be taking a rather unique approach to advertising on MLNP.tv.

So here’s the deal: as long as you embed it in a #realworldsex scenario – by which we mean, involving real people, having sex for real – you can sell anything you want to on MakeLoveNotPorn.tv. And when we say anything, we don’t just mean condoms, sex toys, vibrators – we mean ANYTHING. Any perfectly ordinary household good, product, service – as long as you integrate it entertainingly into a #realworldsex video. The couch they’re doing it on….the lingerie she’s wearing…..the laptop or stereo in the background….the hotel they’re staying at…the enterprise software they’re working on at the office….the airline they’re flying when they join the MileHighClub…anything goes. They say sex sells: well, let’s find out !

For brands and advertisers pioneering enough to consider this, think of the engagement possibilities…and contact cindy@makelovenotporn.tv. We’d love to talk #realworldsex advertising.

PS Eat24, we’re looking at you!

Don Jon is spot-on on why you should Make Love Not Porn

$

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ‘Don Jon’, the movie written and directed by and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and I want everybody to go and see it. Here are seven highly subjective reasons why.

1. I’m extremely impressed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote this.

‘Don Jon’ is a highly entertaining movie that tackles a profound social issue – one of the most fundamental of our times, with some of the most far-reaching ramifications for human relationships, lives, happiness. Joseph Gordon-Levitt brings Jon Martello to life beautifully; I loved his direction, particularly the cyclical, repeating motifs of life for Don Jon; but I am especially impressed that he concepted and wrote this movie. ‘Don Jon’ presents a male perspective but plays out as a film that you might have expected a woman to have written, and I mean that as a huge compliment. That’s also precisely the point: ‘Don Jon’ challenges socio-cultural stereotypes in a way I’d love to see more of (society has trouble understanding and acknowledging that women enjoy sex just as much as men, and men are just as romantic as women). This really is the perfect date movie, for everyone – I guarantee you’ll have plenty to talk about afterwards, and the potential to open up really interesting, highly personal dialogues.

 2. We love you New Jersey!

‘Don Jon’ is screamingly funny, not least in the pitch-perfect characterization of the New Jersey Italian-American community. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Jon Martello personifies the Jersey Shore ‘GTL’ baller in wonderfully recognizable fashion; Tony Danza, Glenne Headly and Brie Larson as his father, mother and sister respectively make for some hysterical round-the-dinner-table action; and Scarlett Johansson is excellent as a Jersey Girl with her own particular recognition factor.

3. The movie takes an unexpected turn that I never saw coming.

Without spoiling anything, I will just say that there is a certain amount of misdirection going on in the trailer for ‘Don Jon’, and that I found myself riveted at how the plot played out in a way that I didn’t anticipate at all – and that I absolutely love, for reasons that will become obvious when you see the movie.

4. ‘Don Jon’ doesn’t demonize porn.

‘Don Jon’ understands and makes it clear that the issue isn’t porn. The real issue is the lack of a counterpoint – of an open, honest, healthy, truthful dialogue around sex in the real world, both in the public domain, and privately in our intimate relationships. (Because we all get vulnerable when we get naked, and sexual egos are very fragile, we can find it bizarrely difficult to talk about sex with the people we’re actually having it with, while we’re actually having it.) When we open up the ability to have that dialogue, we open up the opportunity to bring a real-world mindset to understanding that porn is artificial entertainment, and how differently you can, and should, approach and enjoy #realworldsex.

5. Gotta be said – what great product placement, Pornhub and Brazzers!

My background is advertising – so not only did I love the visual commentary in ‘Don Jon’ on the pornification of popular culture, ads included, I am also always impressed and entertained by innovative and well-integrated product placement.  ‘Don Jon’ will undoubtedly drive a shedload of traffic to Pornhub – nice one, Pornhub! In which context I should explain that MakeLoveNotPorn is ‘Pro-sex, pro-porn, pro-knowing the difference’, and the porn industry returns the favor, with a lot of interest in and support for what we are doing, as witness the number of pornstars who share their own #realworldsex on MLNP.tv to demonstrate the difference between their own on- and off-camera activities.

When I tweeted this:

Pornhub responded:

6. ‘Don Jon’ should be screened in every single school and college in America (and actually, the world).

I’m serious. The message of this movie is exactly what needs to be communicated to every adolescent, male and female, in America today – and one of the things that impressed me about the direction and the editing is that, although the subject matter is very frank, what you actually see has been carefully framed and cut to not be overly graphic. The film makes its point without shoving it down your throat (as it were, heh heh). As such, I can promise you there is absolutely nothing in ‘Don Jon’ that the vast majority of teenagers have not already seen (if you think otherwise, parents, you’re kidding yourselves). One showing of this film in school would shortcut large amounts of much-needed education and provide the perfect jumping-off point for many much-needed conversations. I strongly urge anyone who can, to make that happen.

7. ‘Don Jon’ is bang on message with MakeLoveNotPorn.

MakeLoveNotPorn was inspired by the fact that I date younger men, and realized six or seven years ago that I was encountering, very personally and intimately, exactly what ‘Don Jon’ highlights: today’s total freedom of access to porn online, combined with society’s equally total reluctance to talk openly and honestly about sex, results in porn becoming, by default, the sex education of today. ‘Don Jon’ dramatizes exactly what we’re tackling: as with the majority of young men (and many women) today, Jon ‘Don Jon’ Martello’s sexual development has been driven by porn rather than human sexual interaction, with unfortunate results, including a preference for porn over actual live sex. The movie demonstrates very clearly the fundamental difference between the two, in a way that I suspect will prove revelatory to many dedicated porn fans in the audience. This is the first mainstream movie to address this issue head on, versus an increasing number of documentaries and TV programs, and to do so in both a highly entertaining and extremely moving way. Go see it.
